bat

A Cricket Bat is usually made of willow, at least the blade is. The blade is flat on one side, is slightly rounded at the edges; and the back is shaped so that the blade is only about an inch thick at the top, but swells to form a hump about six inches from the bottom. The hump gives the bat strength. The handle is made of cane and can be as or more important then the blade. The blade has a maximum width of 4.25 inches (108 millimeters) and the entire bat has a maximum length of 38 inches (965 millimeters). The bat is what the batsmen uses to defend his wicket and scores his runs. There is no limit on weight, although most bats weigh between 36 and 48 ounces (1008 to 1344 grams).
