Korean War

On June 25, 1950, the Korean War began when some 75,000 soldiers from the North Korean People’s Army poured across the 38th parallel, the boundary between the Soviet-backed Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to the north and the pro-Western Republic of Korea to the south. . It is important to note that the occupation of both United States and the Soviet Union in the South and North Korea respectively left different governments and different ideas in the two states with the south adopting democracy and the north a communist.

By 1950, Kim II sung who was the leader of the north Korea decided to overrule the whole Korea as he felt his government was the legitimate one for Korea he therefore decided to invade Syngman Rhee’s South Korea as he is not contended with the 38th parallel boundary this action spurred counter action from the united states as they entered the war and through the help of commander Douglas Mac Arthur, South Korea was redeemed from the north Koreans and even the north Koreans were pushed away as far as the Yalu river which borders china and north Korea, a warning from Mao Zedong and a calculated risk of a greater war perhaps world war III made American troops to retreat . Meanwhile, American officials worked anxiously to fashion some sort of armistice with the North Koreans. Finally in July 1953, the Korean war came to an end when armistice was signed and each nations accepted the newly drafted border.
