Mario Cuomo
Mario Matthew Cuomo, (June 15, 1932 – 1 January 2015) was an American politician and Democratic Governor of New York from 1983 1994 t0o. An unapologetic liberal, ardent Cuomo speech at the Democratic convention 1984 earned him a national reputation as an eloquent critic of the Reagan administration. A skilled orator in an era when ideological battles were waged on television soundbites, was a voice of dissent against the consistent political tendencies as welfare reform in 1990. He flirted with presidential runs in 1988 and in 1992, but ultimately confined his political aspirations in New York, losing his bid for a fourth term of Office to Republican George Pataki in 1994. Died of natural causes due to heart failure in Manhattan, New York City on new year's day, 2015.
