shuttlecock
The object made of cork and 14 to 16 goose feathers that players volley across the net; also called a bird or birdie. A shuttlecock will usually last about two games. The heavier the shuttlecock, the faster it flies. It will also fly faster in higher temperatures and at higher altitudes. The shuttle weighs about 4.74 to 5.5 grams or about 0.2 oz. The base of the shuttle, which excludes the cork base, is 2 inches or 70 mm long and 2 5/8th inches or 68 mm wide.
